Each level of the National Qualification Framework, is designed to accredit candidate’s understanding of the key principle underlying Bookkeeping and Accounting practice. The qualification have been designed both to be flexible and to encourage a holistic approach to the subject. For the first time, candidates will, at all levels, have the opportunity to take manual Bookkeeping and Accounting units alongside computerised Bookkeeping and Accounting units and to combine these in one qualification. Candidates at Level 1 and 2 are required to undertake 2 optional units in addition to a mandatory core unit. These options include both manual and computerised Bookkeeping/ Accounting units or take units from across both sets of options. Those candidates who choose either one manual unit with one computerised unit or two manual units will be awarded an OCR Certificate in Bookkeeping/ Accounting. Those candidates who choose the two computersied units will receive their certificates with an endorsement, eg OCR Level 1 Certificate in Bookkeeping (Computerised). Those candidates who achieve all five units will be awarded an OCR Diploma in Bookkeeping/ Accounting. This qualification has been designed with both progression and coverage of NVQ standards in mind. Candidates can either work through the three levels or use each of the qualifications as the basis for progressions to the NVQ in Accounting. At Level 1 and 2, the qualifications provide a good basis for progressions to NVQ Level 2 in Accounting to OCR Advanced GCE(General Certificate of Education) in Accounting. Both qualifications are unit-based and certification is available at unit level, as well as full qualification level. Each unit has a value in its own right. This will enable candidates to build on their achievements in small bite size chunks, or to seek accreditation for specific skills through units of the qualification.
