FINANCIAL A training and travel allowance of £50 per week is paid subject to attendance. This allowance is paid by cheque after four weeks. The cheque is issued in the trainee’s name and is not transferable. Payment to registered child-minders or subsidies payment to close relatives is possible only on the condition that the child is either in full-time education and requires latch-key facility or is under 2 years old. EDUCATIONAL At the end of the one year course trainees are expected to gain 17 different recognised qualifications in Accounts and Administration, using information technology as a basis, with language enhancement. With so many qualifications, the trainees have greater advantages when entering the job market. EMOTIONAL All the staff and tutors are very understanding and supportive. If there are any problems the Nari Ekta staff will be more than glad to help in confidence. Necessary counseling and guidance is provided throughout the course. In addition trainees have the access of a qualified counselor based in the college. LANGUAGE SUPPORT A language support worker is present within the class throughout the year. The support includes not only the translation and interpretation in Asian languages but also simplification of subject specific jargon of financial, computing and administrative terms. She also helps in classroom activities. In addition to the career counseling and advice trainees receive throughout the course, an intensive career development course is devised at the end of the course. The women are made aware of the opportunities available for them, i.e. further education/ training in colleges / university/ training centres, also of different jobs. Candidates who do not achieve the full NVQ certificate will be granted a statement of credits, detailing the units which they have passed. The course lasts for one year which also includes on-going work placement. |
