About Nari Ekta

Our course provides opportunities by giving the necessary vocational knowledge, skills and training to unemployed Asian women, who are socially and educationally disadvantaged due to language and cultural differences; thus encountering special difficulties in the labour market.

Nari Ekta provides a suitable learning environment for trainees i.e. training Asian women only, by female tutors. We provide guidance along with making trainees aware of job opportunities available in the market, individual training plans and supportive work placements. The course includes theory, practical and work experience elements. Successful trainees obtain recognised qualifications and a high standard of practical skills. This training enables these women to move into specialist professions such as office and accounts management, where Asian women are under-represented. When recruiting trainees, priority is give to the hard-core long-term unemployed, who have been unemployed for more than three years, ex-offenders and single parents.

Our course commences every September for one year. Benefits include language support throughout the course, child care facilities i.e., on-site creche, child minding, after school care, play schemes in school holidays, and training and travel allowance of £50 per week. Since Nari Ekta is based in the centre of Leeds, women from all over Leeds/ Bradord and other neighbouring areas can attend our course, as it is easily accessible via train, bus or car. This is also an advantage when trainees are on work placements as the majority of placements are in the town centre and we can provide support and advice at all times.
